It supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. Follow the instructions to download, unpack, and register. But it cannot do that until it can correctly read what is on that sector. The drive wants to mark that sector as bad, and begin using one of the drive's space sectors to replace it. It means there is data on the disk that the hard drive is unable to read. If the problem continues, try PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Pending sectors are a bad thing a very bad thing. If you have a supported operating system but you still have a problem, try downloading the latest from Piriform Defraggler. Now, if you have problems using the application, make sure it is compatible with your computer.ĭefraggler supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit. The application also tries to move or transfer all of your files to the beginning of the hard drive which offers faster access. When the operating system accesses a file, it only needs to look in one location which speeds up things. Defraggler boosts your computer by placing all parts of a file in one section of the hard drive. I let it run for about 1 hour and only 1 was done so I canceled it and ran Windows defrag instead which was done in few minutes but Defraggler still shows 26 fragmention. According to Piriform, the developer – also developed CCleaner, though Windows already has its own defragmenting utility, Defraggler has quite a few unique features that Windows Defragmenter don’t have. Defraggler says 26 fragmention of my C: disk and also shows >1 remaining time of defragmention. I'd recommend using the manufactures tool. It's quite difficult to decipher whether these details are accurate, or important. HD Tune says 'Health Status: OK', but has two of the records highlighted in yellow. Defraggler says 'Health: WARNING', but doesn't say what the problem is. You'll want to do a full test on the disk. Under the Defraggler and HD Tune health tabs, some of the info is throwing warnings. However if it doesn't find problems then run a diagnostic on the hard drive. Whether your loss of space is normal Defraggler action I don't know.Resolve Disk Health Error Defraggler Error.ĭefraggler is a small utility designed for Microsoft Windows similar to that of Windows’ own Disk Defragmenter which defrags your hard drive. chkdsk /f c: chkdsk /f g: and if it finds problems and repair them then run your defrag tool again. It doesn't sound to me that you have an overwhelming need to defrag your drive. But this is not to reduce fragmentation in general, but to eliminate the possibility of mass extents in snapshot volumes, a very particular and specific aim. Windows 10 does defrag SSDs if certain conditions have been met, as has been discussed here recently. Whilst a HDD might suffer some slight delay in fetching disparate clusters (but I never noticed) on an SSD the overhead is as minimal as it can get. Now, run Defraggler and see the health of your drive. After restarting the computer windows will check your hard disk errors. Initiate the program and restart your PC. If the problem shows again then try the Error Checking tools of Windows. Fragmentation is defined in the MFT, and that's what is used to create the Defraggler display and percentages. You should download the latest version of Defraggler and install it. All a disk knows is clusters, or pages, and some are used and some aren't. It's worth remembering that fragmentation is a logical construct, it doesn't exist on the disk. My HDD dating back to 2006 which was retired early this year has never been defragged and everything was well, just fine. Well, I'm sure some of this will be down to personal opinion, but if you want to avoid 'adversely affecting my SSD' then don't run any defragger against it. Since I actually like the software, is there any feedback someone can give me as to why this happened and how I can fix it so I can use the software without adversely affecting my SSD? I went back and used the standard Windows defragger on the C: drive and seem to have recovered the lost free space, but not the lost total space. As a test, I ran the standard Windows defragger on the remaining partition, and it completely defragged but it's memory sizes were unaffected. At that point my total size had gone from 250 GB to 249 GB, and my free space had gone from 60 GB down to 56.6 GB and it was continuing to drop, so I stopped the program from running any further. After almost an hour later, the program had completed defragmenting 3% of my C: drive 250 GB partition, but as it was running, I was watching the free space slowly decreasing. My drive initially reported that it was 50% fragmented, so I started running Defraggler. I read the warning about using Defraggler with an SSD could reduce the lifetime of the drive, but I thought doing one run of Defraggler wouldn't hurt. I have a Windows 7 laptop with a 1 TB SSD drive. Upgrade now to Defraggler Professional for advanced defragmentation Upgrade Now Only 24.95 RISK-FREE PURCHASE. I'm new to using Defraggler and only downloaded it because of the drive map display.
